The trade union Fórsa has said it is satisfied that the Department of Education has taken the steps necessary to minimise health risks to students and staff participating in programmes taking place this summer for children with intellectual disabilities, and for students attending disadvantaged schools.
The new guidance documents are due to be circulated to schools shortly.
Fórsa said the guidance agreement included an online training presentation for all staff, advice on maintaining a two metre social distance where possible, and advice on the use of PPE.
The union said the measures were a genuine attempt to address the safety issues posed by Covid-19, and that they recognised that social distancing may not always be possible for SNAs.
It said SNAs would be provided with face visors and other appropriate PPE.
Fórsa said it was continuing to work with the Department and other stakeholders on comprehensive guidance on the reopening of schools in the autumn.
