Two held after suspected firearm and ammunition seized

Two people have been arrested following the seizure of a suspected firearm and ammunition in Dublin this morning.

Shortly after midnight, gardaí who were on patrol observed an altercation between a number of people on Abbey Street in the city centre.

When the gardaí approached to intervene, they observed a man throwing a way an object into a nearby bin on Liffey Street.

Gardaí inspected the bin and recovered a suspected firearm and ammunition.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Store Street Garda Station.

Gardaí have said the firearm and ammunition are currently undergoing ballistics analysis, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
