A further 19 people diagnosed with Covid-19 in Ireland have died, the Department of Health has confirmed.

There have now been a total of 1,303 Covid-19 related deaths here.

There have also been 330 additional new cases of the coronavirus diagnosed, bringing the number of confirmed cases here to 21,506.

Detailed data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, correct as of midnight, Friday 1 May (relating to 21,064 cases), reveals:

-  58% are female and 42% are male

-  the median age of confirmed cases is 49 years

-  2,825 cases (13%) have been hospitalised. Of those, 363 cases have been admitted to ICU

-  6,068 cases are associated with healthcare workers

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 10,406 (49% of all cases) followed by Kildare with 1,242 cases (6%) and then Cork with 1,164 cases (6%)

Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 63%, close contact accounts for 34%, travel abroad accounts for 3%

In Northern Ireland, the department of health confirmed that a further five people have died from coronavirus, bringing the total deaths there to 381.

There are 78 new cases of Covid-19 in the North, with the total number of cases now at 3,767.

The latest update also reveals that 723 suspected/confirmed coronavirus patients are being treated in 19 hospitals in Northern Ireland. Of those, 32 are being treated in intensive care.
