Remarkably, it is the second time that Mr Cleary has successfully fought off a deadly virus. He was on life support for three months a decade ago with swine flu.
"Dad is a miracle man and a true hero," said his relieved daughter Rachel.
"We are so grateful to the frontline workers at St Vincent's who saved his life. We can't put into words what they did for him, my mum and our family.
"We thank them for minding him when we could not be by his side. And we thank every single person that has come together and prayed for dad, we are forever grateful to each and every one of you."
Mr Cleary, who is the head of facilities at Blackrock Rugby Club, is said to be "tired but ever so grateful" after leaving hospital.
