Ireland's first baby of the new year and new decade was born in the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin at 12.12am.

Baby Victoria Setuke was born to Patience Setuke and weighed 3.23kg, or just over seven pounds.

Patience said she was delighted with her new arrival, and Victoria is her first child.

She said she is tired, but very thankful to all the staff in the Rotunda who helped her with the birth.

She added that she did not expect Victoria to be the first baby of the decade, and hopes she will look back at that fondly.

Seven babies were born at the Rotunda between midnight and 4am.
