Kayakers rescued from Lough Derg

Two people who were kayaking on Lough Derg near Garrykennedy in Co Tipperary have been rescued by the RNLI.

Lough Derg RNLI was launched just after 9.30am following reports of two people in the water.

The Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 115 joined the rescue as did the mobile Coast Guard unit from Killaloe, which travelled by road to Garrykennedy, to join in the operation.

The helicopter crew spotted the two people in the water holding on to their kayaks.

Rescue 115 hovered above the location until the lifeboat arrived on the scene.

The two kayakers were taken to shore where they were met by ambulance and paramedics and transferred to hospital.

There is no information on their condition.
