Kriégel parents read poetic tribute for Ana

RTÉ has broadcast an audio tribute to Ana Kriégel by her parents Geraldine and Patric.

The short segment is the reading of a poem entitled 'Love Never Disappears' by Saint Augustine.

The audio was played at Ana’s funeral service in May 2018, and was recently given by Ana’s parents to RTÉ Prime Time to be broadcast publicly.

The audio was played on RTÉ’s Today With Sean O’Rourke programme this morning.

The poem is read in English by Ana’s mother Geraldine, and then in French by Ana’s father Patric.

Ana grew up in Co Kildare with three cultural influences – Irish, French and Russian. Her Siberian heritage was very important to her.

She was adopted by Geraldine and Patrick from Russia on 10 August 2006, aged two.

Ana and her family spent one month every year in Annecy in France.

In her victim impact statement read at the Central Criminal Court last week, Geraldine remembered how Ana would say goodnight to her parents every night and tell them she loved them.

"Every night she came to kiss us and said - always in French - ‘Bonne nuit, dors bien, fais de beaux réves, je t’aime’ – Good night, sleep tight, have beautiful dreams, I love you.

"She cannot do that anymore, and we cannot tell you how badly it hurts," she told the court.

Love Never Disappears
St. Augustine

Love never disappears for death is no longer here.
I have just moved to the room next door.
I am me, you are you, what we were for each other, we still are.
Give me the name that you always gave me, talk to me as you always have.
Don't use a different tone. Let’s continue to laugh together, smile and think of me.
Please say my name in our home as you have always done.
The love is never broken.
Why should I be out of your thoughts just because I am out of sight.
I am waiting for you, I am not far, just on the other side of the path.
You see all is well.
