A man in his late 50s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Sandycove in Dublin this afternoon.
The Irish Coast Guard said it received a call to the popular Forty Foot bathing area at around 2pm.
The Rescue 116 helicopter, Dún Laoghaire RNLI lifeboat, ambulance service and gardaí were involved in the operation.
A number of people went to the man's assistance before the emergency services arrived.
The man was taken by ambulance to St Vincent's University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí have said a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court, and have said investigations are ongoing.
