A man in his 80s who had been arrested over the fatal shooting of another man in Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo, has been released without charge.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A man in his 60s, who has been named locally as farmer Brendan Kilduff, was shot dead at Coogue near Knock just before midnight on Tuesday.
The shooting is being treated as a tragic incident.
Gardaí have said the post-mortem examination following Mr Kilduff's death has been completed, but the results will not be released for operational reasons.
They say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Local resident Aiden Kneafsey told RTÉ News that "everyone is in shock" in the area.
He said: "They're trying to take it all in. It’s a very sad day for the village and for everybody involved.
"Everybody is devastated. Nothing like that has happened here before."
