Revenue officers have seized 584,000 unstamped cigarettes at Dublin Port.

The discovery was made with the help of the Revenue X-ray scanner.

The shipment originated from China and arrived in Dublin Port from Rotterdam.

Revenue officers say the retail value of the cigarettes is over €292,000 and had a potential loss of €274,000 to the Exchequer.

The cigarettes were concealed as 'tea tables' and branded as 'Marboro Gold' and ‘MB Blue’.

Revenue say that the seizure was part of ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products. They have asked if the public or businesses have any information on smuggling to contact them on the Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
