One of two boys accused of the murder of 14-year-old Ana Kriégel told a teacher he was "doing a good turn for a mate" when he called to the schoolgirl's home to ask her to come to the park.

The boy told the teacher he had been dragged into what he described as a "mess" by his co-accused.

Both boys deny murdering Ana Kriégel on 14 May 2018. One of the boys also denies violently sexually assaulting her.

The teacher said she met the second accused boy in this case two days after Ana had been reported missing.

Boy B said he had called to Ana's house on 14 May to do a "good turn for a mate". His co-accused wanted to meet her in the park he said to tell her he was not interested in her.

She said Boy B mentioned around ten times in the conversation that he was not the last person to see Ana.

She said he also mentioned more than once that Boy A had scratches on his body from being attacked in the park and he suggested that the people who had attacked the other boy may have kidnapped Ana.

The teacher said the boy was articulate, calm and clear. He said he had been interrogated by the gardaí and found being questioned by them difficult.

She said he looked her straight in the eye, he seemed very bright and was very calm. He said he had been dragged into this mess by Boy A and told her he should not be involved in it. He said boy A was not one of his core group of friends.

She agreed under cross-examination by lawyers for Boy B that her instinct was that the boy wanted to say more to her but she said her role was not that of an investigator and she steered him away from territory she did not feel comfortable with. She felt the boy was coping well in a difficult situation.

Another woman gave evidence that she had spoken to Boy A after Ana went missing. He told her he had been attacked in the park and described the pain he was in. He said he barely knew Ana - he told the woman she had stormed off after he told her he did not want to go out with her.

The court was told he described feeling nervous and anxious and said he did not have any appetite.
