Gardaí above EU average for number of female members

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has said that An Garda Síochána is above the European average for female members of police forces.

Mr Harris was speaking at a Garda graduation ceremony in Templemore this afternoon.

Of the 14,000 members of An Garda Síochána, 27% are women, as are 46 of the 206 that graduated today.

Also included in today’s new graduates are 14 new gardaí from Northern Ireland, England, Romania, America, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Latvia.
