The former RTÉ Television Producer/Director and Head of Drama Tony Barry has died.

He passed away early this morning at Cork University Hospital.

Tony Barry was a former head of drama at RTÉ and ran workshops in direction over a number of years for the film department at Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. 

As a director his credits include Strumpet City (James Plunkett) and Lovers of the Lake (Sean O'Faoilain) The Real Charlotte, The Officer from France and Access to the Children which were among many modern dramas, period dramas and documentaries shot for RTÉ, BBC and Channel 4 from 1969 onwards. 

Tony Barry's work was recognised with five international awards during his career. 

RTÉ has expressed its deepest sympathy to the Barry Family.
