Dublin man charged with firearm offence in the UK

A 51-year-old man arrested as part of a British police investigation into the supply and sale of drugs in Ireland and the UK has been charged with a firearm offence.

The National Crime Agency said Thomas Kavanagh, with an address in Tamworth, was arrested as he arrived at Birmingham Airport yesterday.

NCA officers and gardaí investigating organised crime, along with officers from Staffordshire police force, carried out a number of searches following the arrest.

A combination torch and stun gun - which is illegal to own and possess in the UK - was recovered following a search.

Mr Kavanagh was remanded in custody overnight and will appear at North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

A 20-year-old man arrested along with Mr Kavanagh has been released under investigation.

A 19-year-old was also arrested but he has been released under investigation.
