Victims of the CervicalCheck crisis were remembered on Nollaig na mBan with a candlelight vigil at Eyre Square this evening.
The vigil was organised by the Galway Council of Trade Unions.
Following the publication of the Scally Report into the crisis, the council decided to remember and pay tribute to the late Emma Mhic Mhathúna and other victims on the day which traditionally celebrates women.
It has called on public representatives to ensure that all 50 recommendations made in the Scally Report be implemented to ensure it never happens again.
Marian Spelman of the GCTU said there was no point in reports being done if they are just left to gather dust.
"The GCTU wanted to remember Emma Mhic Mhathúna and everybody who has been affected by the Cervical cancer scandal," she said.
She added: "All we want to do today is light a candle, and remember all those who have been affected by it, and also to encourage all public representatives here in Ireland to implement the Scally Report.
"It is wonderful that a report has been done, but reports are no good if they gather dust on shelves.
"We need it to be implemented and we need it to be implemented now."
