Minister for Justice and Equality Charlie Flanagan has announced funding supports for victims of crime in 2019.

A total of 57 organisations around the country will be supported next year through an annual funding allocation of €1.7 million.

Minister Flanagan said "The ongoing direct help being provided to victims of crime and to their families and friends by our victim support services makes a hugely valuable and vital contribution in Irish society.

"I warmly applaud all of the staff and volunteers in these services for their dedicated, professional and sensitive work in helping so many of our people during what is invariably a distressing and very often traumatic time in their lives."

The funding will be available through a scheme administered by the Victims of Crime Office in the Department of Justice.

It is being provided alongside a programme of wider reform which the Government continues to advance in supporting victims of crime.

The Minister added"The funding being provided in 2019 remains a key feature of our overall efforts in better supporting victims of crime at their time of need and so I am delighted to be able to announce this important allocation today."
