A 24-year-old man has appeared in court in Cape Town, South Africa, charged with the murder of Irish man John Curran.
Mitspa Mzakomba Onyoka, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but with an address in Cape Town, was also charged with aggravated burglary.
Mr Onyoka, who was granted free legal aid, was remanded in custody until 3 December.
Mr Curran, 60, who was from Dublin, was fatally stabbed in an apartment in Cape Town on 7 November.
Mr Onyoka was arrested on Friday night on Voortrekker road in Goodwood, Cape Town.
State prosecutor Adiel Jansen told the court that Mr Onyoka was charged with murder and aggravated robbery following his arrest.
Mr Jansen asked that Mr Onyoka's bail be postponed until next week to allow investigating officers to check his address and name were correct.
Investigating officers also wanted to check to see if there were any outstanding warrants against him.
Mr Curran, a well-known Irish teacher, had been working in South Africa as a Director of Education at Mellon Educate.
He had just completed his two-year contract with them and was due to return to Ireland.
He was the principal of the Good Shepherd National School in Dublin's Churchtown for 14 years up until 2005.
