The winner of this year's Man Booker Prize says she will use the £50,000 prize to pay off her debts, having struggled financially as a writer.
Anna Burns, 56, was presented with this year's literary award for Milkman, a novel which does not use character names and has few paragraphs.
The first Northern Irish winner of the award admitted that writing had not been a lucrative career.
Ms Burns revealed she has been forced to move many times in her career as writing has not paid the bills.
Speaking to RTÉ News, she said: "I’m going to pay my debts and will live on what’s left".
She said winning the award was "hugely wonderful", describing it as "a massive gift".
