A society at Dublin City University has been suspended for one semester following what has been described as ‘inappropriate conduct’ during an Extraordinary General Meeting.
The DCU student publication, the College View reported that the Accounting and Finance society was suspended due to actions that were deemed to go against DCU’s respect and dignity policy.
The committee members of the society have also been told that they must attend a respect and dignity workshop.
The DCU Students’ Union said the event in question took place on 4 October.
The Union said it was ‘shocked and disappointed’ by the actions of what it described as ‘one cohort’ of students.
In a statement the Students’ Union said that the university’s Society Life Committee, which governs the societies on campus, had taken appropriate action against the Accounting and Finance society and that further action was planned to address what it called ‘this culture as a whole’.
The Union said a number of support services are available for any students who have been affected by what happened.
