Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he welcomes any initiative to jointly host the 2030 World Cup by the football associations of the UK and Ireland, and would be very excited at such a prospect.
His support for such a bid follows British Prime Minister Theresa's Mays assertion that the British government would give such a bid their whole-hearted support.
Speaking in Galway this afternoon, the Taoiseach said Ireland is well used to hosting big events such as the Ryder Cup and the Special Olympics.
He said there is some work to be done on any such joint bid but the FAI are currently completing a feasibility study on the issue.
But he said he would be very excited about the prospect of Ireland hosting such a major international competition as part of a joint Ireland-UK bid.
