Guns and ammunition have been seized in Co Longford following an operation in the Drumlish area of the county this morning.

Detectives from Granard, assisted by the special detective unit from Dublin, stopped a car and uncovered ammunition in the boot.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, was arrested and is currently being held in Longford Garda station.

In a follow-up search on two houses gardaí also seized a machine gun and a pistol in a house near Drumlish.

Two men, aged in their 30s and 60s, were arrested at the scene and have also been taken to Longford Garda station for questioning.

All three men are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939/1998.
