The Scally Review, set up in the wake of the CervicalCheck cervical screening controversy, is due to deliver its final report in early September.

A spokesperson for the review told RTÉ News that the review is on track to deliver its report to Minister for Health Simon Harris early next month.

"It will then be a matter for the Minister/Government to determine a date for its publication and the process by which it is published", the statement said,

It is expected that after consideration, the report will go to a Cabinet meeting.

The review by Dr Gabriel Scally was set up in early May.

It followed the Vicky Phelan case and €2.5m settlement and later concern about women who underwent screening not being told of the audit of their screening tests or of the outcomes.

Earlier today, Labour Health Spokesperson Alan Kelly, said the report should be provided to women at the centre of the controversy before its publication.

He said the expected deadline of this Friday should not be missed, as too many deadlines had passed.

Mr Kelly said that after the report is published, the Government can finally establish a Commission of Inquiry.

The review had been originally expected to report by the end of June but delays in getting documentation in a suitable format to review resulted in it taking longer than originally expected.

An interim report on improving the information provided to women receiving screening and treatment was published in mid June.
