Police in Tenerife have arrested a man after a 10-year-old Irish boy died following a hit-and-run incident.
The incident happened around 8.30pm on Thursday on a street called Calle Dublin - or Dublin Street in English- in Adeje in the south of the island.
The boy was coming out of a shopping centre with his family when he was hit.
He was admitted to an intensive care unit at the University Hospital Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria from another hospital where he was initially taken after being stabilised at the scene.
He died in hospital late on Friday.
The suspect was held after investigators discovered his car during a search of the island.
He is being questioned while forensic experts examine his vehicle, a red Alfa Romeo 145.
The car, which had a broken front headlamp, is understood to have been found abandoned a few miles from the scene of the collision.
