The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has said it has an average three days' supply across all blood types and just two days of O Negative after clinics nationwide were cancelled due to the impact of Storm Emma.
It has asked for donors to make a special effort to give blood.
it said blood supply has been severely depleted over the last week, as it was unable to hold clinics.
IBTS Operations Director Paul McKinney said it was unable to guarantee supply to hospitals "unless there is a significant increase in donations over the coming weeks to make up the shortfall".
"We are aiming to collect 7,000 donations between now and St Patrick's weekend," he said.
In addition to normal clinics, the IBTS is running four additional Sunday clinics on 11 March in Waterford city, Drogheda, Celbridge, and Doon, Co Limerick.
All clinic details are available on www.giveblood.ie.
