Kerry Mountain Rescue spokesperson Alan Wallace told RTÉ's Today with Damien O'Reilly that he was located high on the mountain in an area called the Bone.

The alarm was raised when the man contacted gardaí by mobile phone yesterday evening to say he was lost.

The search was suspended at about 1am and resumed this morning.

Three climbers who got into difficulty on Carrauntoohil yesterday were successfully escorted off the mountain, following two separate rescue operations.
