A technical and forensic search of the home of 78-year-old Rose Hanrahan, who was found murdered there last Friday afternoon, is continuing.

Gardaí have court authority to carry on gathering evidence there, and the technical search is likely to continue for several more days.

Investigators are also searching a laneway and an area of waste ground close to the house.

Flowers and candles have been left on the windowsill of the house in memory of the elderly widow, who neighbours describe as a kind and friendly neighbour.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Willie O'Dea said there is understandable fear in the community about what happened, and that the perpetrators are still at large.

He once again appealed to people to help gardaí with any information they may have to help them solve this murder.

Mr Hanrahan regularly attended mass at the local St Munchin's church, and prayers were said for her at the Christmas carol service last night.

Locals have also asked for a prayer service to be held on New Road where she lived.
