Two men have been injured in separate shootings in Dublin that happened within hours of each other.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the head just after 11pm last night at Shancastle Park in Clondalkin.

He has been taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where gardaí say he is in a critical condition.

An incident room has been set up in Lucan Garda Station and gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact them there at 01 666 7300 or 1800 666 111.

Superintendent John Gordan of Lucan Garda Station said they are following a number of lines of inquiry.

They said the injured man is an Irish national from the locality but the location of the shooting was not his family home.

Separately, a man in his late teens was shot in the stomach when shots were fired into a house at Barnwell Drive in Ballymun at 2.25am.

The man has been taken to the Mater Hospital.

However, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
