The State Examinations Commission (SEC) has confirmed 1,432 upgrades to results were issued to students who sat the Leaving Cert this year.
More than 14% of all appeals made to the SEC over this year's exams led to an upgrade for the student.
The results of this year's appeals process show that 5,615 candidates appealed a total of 9,806 individual grades.
Out of those grades, 1,425 were upgraded, while just four were downgraded as a result.
The appeals process involves the full re-marking of the paper, by a different examiner.
This year's 14.5% upgrade rate compares to a rate of 17.5% for last year.
The SEC says the introduction of 10% grade bands this year, compared with 5% grade bands in previous years, means that candidates appealing now require larger increases in marks in order to be awarded a higher grade.
The figures show that History, Maths, and Biology are among the subjects where appeals were most likely to result in an upgrade.
22% of Higher Level History appeals were upgraded. 22% of Ordinary Level Maths appeals resulted in an upgrade. 16% of Higher Level Maths appeals were upgraded. 19% of Higher Level Biology appeals were successful, as were 19.6% of appeals in Higher Level Spanish.
Most candidates who appealed would have viewed their marked script before deciding to press ahead.
It costs €40 to appeal an individual subject. However the fee is returned if the appeal is successful.
