Investigation into death of Irish boy in US boating accident

An investigation is under way into the death of a young Irish boy following a boating accident in the US.

Eight-year-old Harry O'Connor, who has family connections in Clonmel, Co Tipperary and Duleek, Co Meath, died in hospital on Saturday, after being involved in the incident near Boston last Wednesday.

It is believed he had been travelling with a group on a boat when it capsized.

It is understood his family is living in Massachusetts.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is assisting the family.

A spokesperson for the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said an investigation was under way into Harry's death.

His funeral will take place in Ireland at St Cianan's Church, Duleek on Thursday.
