Lawyers for Alan Thawley have described ameeting with Minister for Health Simon Harris this evening as constructive.
Mr Thawley wanted to press his case for an independent review of the death of his wife Malak at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, in May last year.
The meeting lasted for around an hour and was also attended by Mr Thawley’s legal representative, Caoimhe Haughey.
In a statement afterwards she said the Minister outlined the process for a review he has set in train.
It is understood that an independent clinical review may be set up to examine both the internal Holles Street hospital report and the coroner's report.
The review team would include a consultant obstetrician, vascular surgeon and anaesthetist and its members would have no link with Holles Street or the Ireland East Hospital Group.
The team would be set up by the recently established National Women & Infants' Programme Office.
The report will go to Mr Harris and he has agreed to meet with Mr Thawley again very soon.
Ms Haughey said that if after the report Mr Thawley is of the view there should be an independent investigation, the minister will accede to that request.
The review is expected to be completed within weeks.
Mr Thawley said he was feeling too emotional to comment.
He has expressed dissatisfaction with the internal Holles Street Hospital report, which found there was a delay in spotting a tear during surgery of a main artery.
The couple were expecting their first baby when Ms Thawley was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy, seven weeks into the pregnancy.
The recent inquest recorded a verdict of medical misadventure and found that death was caused by a laceration of the abdominal aorta during surgery.
The inquest heard that ice was sought from a nearby pub and that a garda escort was used to get a piece of medical equipment from another hospital to Holles Street.
Questions were also raised about the availability of blood for a period of time, however the hospital has insisted that blood was available.
The hospital has admitted liability in the case and has apologised to Mr Thawley for the pain and grief he has endured.
Ms Thawley was 34 when she died in theatre on 8 May last year.
