A woman found dead in a house in Co Fermanagh yesterday afternoon was murdered, police said.

The 51-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man were found dead at a house in the Abbey Road area of Lisnaskea.

She has been named locally as Concepta Leonard, a well-known traditional musician.

Her 30-year-old son Conor, who has Down syndrome, was stabbed in the abdomen and investigators are treating the attack on him as attempted murder.

He is in a stable condition in hospital.

The other man who died at the scene has been named locally as Peadar Phair.

It is believed Ms Leonard had a brief relationship with Mr Phair that ended last year.

Detectives are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamon Corrigan said: "Post-mortem examinations will be carried out in due course and at this stage we are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Although our enquiries are at an early stage, we are treating the death of the woman as murder."

Former SDLP Assembly member Richie McPhillips said Ms Leonard was a devoted mother and was from a family well-known in traditional Irish music circles.

Speaking on RTÉ's News at One, he said her father is Dinny Leonard, a well-known fiddle and banjo tutor to many generations of young people in Co Fermanagh and the surrounding area.

Mr McPhillips said Ms Leonard had followed in her father's footsteps and was an accomplished musician, as is her son Conor.
