Residents of a south Dublin apartment complex are being asked to contribute to pay a bill of up to €10m to fix fire safety and structural defects in their homes.

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown Josepha Madigan has said residents at Beacon South Quarter in south Dublin are extremely angry at requests for them to pay to fix the problems.

Landmark Developments, the builder of the 600 or so apartments, is in receivership.

Ms Madigan told RTÉ's Today with Sean O'Rourke that residents are "going out of their mind with worry" and described as "a disgrace" requests from the managing agent for them to contribute to a bill of up to €10m.

She said that these apartments were hailed as new luxury residences, but have been beset with difficulties since the outset.

She added that residents are not in a position to pay these bills as they have enough to deal with paying mortgages and management fees.

Ms Madigan also said all stakeholders must be brought together to try to find a resolution.

In a statement this evening, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Council Dun said it was up to the developer to ensure the building workers were carried out in accordance with regulations.
