The Dáil Committee on Procedure and Privileges has agreed to write to Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell to ask him to reply to a complaint that he abused Dáil Privilege last week
Two Sinn Féin deputies, Dessie Ellis and Martin Ferris, have made a complaint to the committee that Mr Farrell abused privilege when he said they should be given the opportunity to address the house as their names were in the public domain.
Mr Farrell made the comments in the Dáil after Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams had made a statement on the murder of the Portlaoise Prison Officer Brian Stack in the 1980s.
Both deputies have denied any wrongdoing and Mr Farrell said he had not inferred that they were involved in any wrongdoing.
The Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl, referred the contents of Mr Farrell's statement to the committee.
It will examine his statement and decide if he abused privilege.
