Contents of a statement made by Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell are to be referred to the Dáil Committee on Procedure and Privileges by Ceann Comhairle Sean Ó Fearghaíl.
It will examine his statement and decide if he abused Dáil privilege.
On Wednesday evening Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams gave a statement in the Dáil on the murder of prison officer Brian Stack in the 1980s.
Mr Farrell then asked that two Sinn Féin TDs, Dessie Ellis and Martin Ferris, should be given the opportunity to address the House as their names were in the public domain.
Both TDs have denied any wrongdoing and Mr Farrell said he did not imply they were involved in any wrongdoing.
