The leadership body of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland will meet tomorrow to consider proposals in a document aimed at resolving the union's dispute with Government.
A special meeting of the ASTI's 23-member Standing Committee has been called following the adjournment of conciliation talks in the early hours of this morning.
By mid-afternoon yesterday, there were indications that a deal was imminent but the talks continued into the evening and late into the night and ended at 1am.
Minister for Education Richard Bruton said a document is now being prepared, but he made no comment on its contents.
Speaking at the Department of Education, he said talks still have some way to go and that there is a considerable amount of work yet to be done.
Trade union leaders leaving the talks did not confirm whether or not more talks would be held.
It is three weeks since the Teachers' Conciliation Council became involved in an attempt to resolve the dispute.
The row had closed hundreds of secondary schools for several days this month and last, with further closures threatened.
The talks involved not just the ASTI and the Department of Education but also the Irish National Teachers' Organisation and the Teachers' Union of Ireland, as well as the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
The executive committee of the TUI will also meet tomorrow to discuss the documents.
