The Medical Council inquiry into allegations against Cavan obstetrician Dr Salah Aziz has resumed for its seventh day.
At the start of proceedings, Chairperson of the Fitness to Practise Committee Mary Duff said the committee wanted to offer its "deepest condolences having heard about the tragic circumstances of Patient 1".
Closing submissions were then made by both sides in relation to the case of Patient 1 who gave birth on 22 November 2012 at Cavan General Hospital.
It is alleged Dr Aziz engaged in prolonged attempts to perform an instrument delivery in the labour ward, instead of moving to do a caesarean section, after his first attempt at a forceps delivery failed.
Dr Aziz has claimed there were problems in getting a theatre open and staffed to perform a C-section.
The inquiry will today make findings of fact in relation to the allegations against Dr Aziz in respect of Patient 1.
However, decisions regarding any poor professional performance will only be dealt with at the end of the full inquiry, when the cases of all three patients have been dealt with.
The inquiry has moved on to Module 2 and the case of Deirdre Clarke, Patient 2.
Dr Aziz provided obstetric care to Ms Clarke between September 2012 and June 2013.
It is alleged that he failed to adequately counsel Ms Clarke about the options and risks regarding an instrument delivery after a caesarean section.
It is also alleged that he did not counsel her regarding inducing labour after a C-section.
There are also allegations regarding the administration of a drug to speed up labour.
It is further alleged that Dr Aziz failed to cooperate with Cavan General's efforts to conduct a review of the case.
The inquiry has heard that Ms Clarke had her first pregnancy under Dr Aziz as a private patient in November 2009.
Baby Enda was born in good condition after a C-section.
On her second pregnancy, she was 33 years of age and saw Dr Aziz for antenatal checks.
She was booked in for induction on 5 June 2013 and gave a preference for a vaginal birth.
Ms Clarke told the inquiry she lived in Celbridge in 2003 and had moved to Cavan.
She works as a teacher in adult educational services.
For her second pregnancy, Ms Clarke said there had been no discussion about being induced.
She was admitted to Cavan on 5 June 2013 and Dr Aziz did an examination at 10.10am.
She said she had not been in labour before and at 8pm the pain got much worse.
The pain on her left side never really subsided and she was getting sick.
She told the inquiry the baby had made a most unusual movement and she knew things were not right.
Ms Clarke said there were more people in the room and the panic started.
She heard a doctor say they had to get the baby out.
Ms Clarke said she felt very unwell being transferred to theatre.
The C section began at 11.34 pm.
The inquiry has adjourned until tomorrow.
