Fine Gael backbenchers have voiced their concerns and criticism about aspects of the Public Health Alcohol Bill at a meeting of the parliamentary party.
While the backbenchers support the bill which provides for the introduction minimum pricing, many are critical of the provision which prohibits the public display of alcohol.
Under the legislation, shopkeepers would be obliged to have a blind or a curtain in front of alcohol products as they must be hidden from view.
Several TD's told the meeting that the provision could wipe out small business owners and shopkeepers and it was being welcomed by the off-licence trade.
The meeting heard that suggestions that Fianna Fáil would not support the bill as it stood.
It is understood four ministers also raised their concerns about the provision in the bill.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister of State Marcella Corcoran Kennedy told the meeting that a solution would be found .
