Independents4Change TD Joan Collins has launched a bill that calls for a referendum to be held to put the public ownership of water into the Constitution.

The bill is supported by 39 TDs, including Sinn Féin, AAA-PBP, and independents.

Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin said Independent Alliance Minister of State John Halligan had supported the bill while in Opposition and he expected he would support it now.

Ms Collins said they had unofficial contact with Fianna Fáil and were told the party would discuss the bill at its parliamentary party meeting.

The bill will be debated on Wednesday.
