Hines, the US real estate company, has been chosen as the preferred bidder for the Central Bank headquarters in Dublin city centre, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not be named as the process is ongoing.

According to Bloomberg, the Central Bank is moving to a new HQ on Dublin north quays, vacating the iconic building on Dame Street it moved into in 1979.

Ireland’s commercial real estate market has been the world’s top performer in the last two years, according to MSCI Inc., in part driven by overseas investors.

Hines has more than $1.5bn (€1.3bn)  in assets in Ireland, according to its website, including retail, office and residential projects.

The Central Bank declined to comment on the sales process, saying only it planned to conclude the sale by the end of the year.

Hines declined to comment.
