A new naval vessel has been formally commissioned at a ceremony in Galway.
After an address by the Taoiseach at Galway Harbour this afternoon, the LÉ William Butler Yeats was officially named by a granddaughter of the poet, Caitriona Yeats.
The formal commissioning followed, before Lieutenant Commander Eric Timon led the crew aboard.
