President Michael D Higgins has declined to comment on whether he intends to seek a second term in Áras an Uachtaráin.
Speaking on The Late Late Show, Mr Higgins said by the time the National Ploughing Championships take place in 2018, the public will know "what I'm doing".
"I will have made a decision then and my decision is my decision."
He said making any comment on his intentions now would interfere with the programme he has planned for 2017 and 2018.
