John Hinckley, the man who tried to assassinate US president Ronald Reagan 35 years ago, has reportedly been released from a psychiatric hospital in Washington.
The Washington Post have reported that Hinckley was released from St Elizabeths Hospital this morning.
Phyllis Jones, a spokeswoman for the city's Department of Behavioral Health, told AFP that "all discharges planned for today have taken place" but said she could not comment on specific patients.
Hinckley's lawyer Barry Levine was not immediately available for comment when contacted by AFP.
In July a federal judge ruled that the 61-year-old no longer poses a threat to himself or others and is permitted to live with his 90-year-old mother in her gated community in Williamsburg, Virginia, - under a strict set of conditions.
He has already been making extended visits to Williamsburg in recent years in preparation for his release.
Hinckley, who was declared not guilty on grounds of insanity, said after the shooting on 30 March 1981 outside a Washington hotel that he wanted to kill Mr Reagan to impress actress Jodie Foster.
