The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.3% between July and August, according to latest figures from the Central Statistics Office.

There was an annual drop of 0.8% during the month, when compared with August 2015.

The number of people unemployed during the month was 181,600 – 15,400 below the figure for August of last year.

There has been a notable slowdown in the rate of falling unemployment, with just a 0.2% drop since the beginning of the year.

However, CSO figures last week showed more than two million people are in employment in Ireland for the first time since the first quarter of 2009.

The unemployment rate for men stands at 9.5%, while the figure for women is 6.8%.

CSO data also shows the youth unemployment rate fell by 0.6% to 17.1% between July and August.
