Mallon expected to be formally charged over illegal tickets probe

Kevin James Mallon, the Irishman who was arrested in Brazil as part of an investigation into the illegal sale of Rio Olympics tickets is expected to be formally charged in the next two days.

Mr Mallon is expected to be charged at a special sitting of 'The Court of Supporters and Large Events' at the Maracana Stadium.

As yet the charges have not been made public. Any trial is not expected until after the Olympic Games end.

Mr Mallon first appeared in court on Monday when the judge ordered his imprisonment pending the results of the ongoing police investigations.

A number of other inquiries are also under way into the controversy.
