Some people who have booked holidays with Lowcostholidays but have yet to travel can make a claim if their holiday will not be honoured by the company, the Commission for Aviation Regulation has said.
The commission's director of legal affairs David Hodnett said he found out late on Friday evening that the company had gone out of business.
The Commission, which is the licensing authority for online travel agencies in Ireland, has received hundreds of calls from people seeking advice and refunds
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Hodnett said the commission will also cover claims for those who are abroad who find they now have to pay a second set of accommodation fees.
Customers will need to keep all receipts and statements.
Claim forms will be made available later today on the commission's website www.aviationreg.ie.
Mr Hodnett said: "Persons who have yet to travel should try to ascertain from lowcostholidays.ie if their booking will be honoured.
"If not, they should make a claim to the commission for a refund of monies paid to date.
"There may be people who are abroad and they find they have to pay a second time for accommodation that they've already paid for via lowcostholidays.ie.
"In that situation those persons should also claim for reimbursement from the Commission for Aviation Regulation."
However, the commission's bond only covers customers who have booked both overseas travel and accommodation.
It does not extend to customers who may have just booked a hotel room or accommodation abroad.
Mr Hodnett said that those people may be able to claim money back through travel or credit card insurance.
It is unclear how many people have been affected.
Lowcostholidays consisted of a number of entities and the only one covered by the Commission is lowcostholidays.ie which is also known as Lowcostholidays Spain SL
