Relocating the Seanad to the Natural Museum on Kildare Street along with some refurbishment work to the museum would cost in the region of €1.5m, it has emerged.

No decision has yet been made on the matter and it is understood a Dáil committee has asked that the costs be reduced.

Minister of State with Responsibility for the OPW Sean Canney said he would have serious reservations about such costs.

He said the costs as well as other locations will have to be reviewed.

Refurbishment work on the Seanad could take up to two years.

Relocating the Seanad to the Dáil chamber or a Dáil committee room was previously considered.
