Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O'Connor has been criticised by a party colleague for not doing enough to save the 240 jobs at the Roche pharmaceutical plant in Clarecastle in Co Clare.
Up to 100 jobs could be gone by the end of this year as the company has begun a process of talks with employees about phasing out positions.
The company announced in May that talks with another international pharmaceutical plant to buy the Clarecastle facility had failed.
It first announced it was to close last November as part of a global restructuring by the Roche group.
The company has confirmed the phase-out process of production at the Clarecastle facility will continue over the next two-and-a-half years ending in 2019.
Fine Gael TD Joe Carey, who lives in Clarecastle, has called on Ms Mitchell O'Connor to travel to Basel in Switzerland and speak directly to management there to try to make every effort to convince them to save the plant and secure the jobs in Co Clare.
Mr Carey said he could not stand idly by and let this valuable employer go and the Government has to do everything in its power to save the plant and the jobs.
He said he made this call in the Dáil and the minister said she would consider it, but it has not happened.
In a statement, Ms Mitchell O'Connor said she was satisfied that IDA Ireland was pursuing all avenues to secure a new buyer and that all available State supports will be provided to employees at Roche.
