A new Educate Together school is to open this September in Greenhills in Dublin 12.
It comes after almost 1,000 expressions of interest from parents who said they wanted to enrol their children in the school.
Riverview Educate Together National School on Limekiln Road will open to junior infant pupils this September.
A parent-led campaign led to speeding-up the opening of the school.
Nikki Murphy of the Campaign Group said: "I'm just so happy that this has come together for the 2016 school year. Our campaign for equality-based education in the area has been short, but intense.
"The huge amount of support and interest in the proposed school has been overwhelming.
"We look forward now to working with Educate Together and creating a much needed new school for the whole community.'
Gerry McKevitt, Regional Development Officer of Educate Together, said he is delighted for the parents who have campaigned for the school.
"I am looking forward to working with all stakeholders to ensure that this school opens in a timely and efficient manner."
Parents can enrol their children on the Educate Together website.
In a statement, Educate Together said it is also gathering expressions of interest from parents in Dún Laoghaire and South Dublin City as it applies for new national schools in these areas.
