Swimming notices issued in respect of six beaches in north Co Dublin have been lifted after water sample tests showed the water quality at each location is satisfactory.
Swimming is now permitted at Balbriggan, Loughshinny, Rush North, Skerries, Claremont and Sutton/Burrow Beaches after prohibitive notices had been placed last weekend and during this week.
However, the prohibitive notice issued for Velvet Strand Beach, Portmarnock, will remain in place until at least Monday when results of tests on water samples taken yesterday will be made available to the Council.
Fingal County Council said the decision to issue prohibitive or advisory notices in respect of swimming at Fingal beaches is made as a precautionary measure where it is believed that there may have been deterioration in the water quality due to a pollution event.
The council said it also has an agreed schedule of sampling in place with the Environmental Protection Agency.
Clare County Council, meanwhile, has now lifted bathing restrictions at Kilkee beach.
The Council confirmed results of water sampling tests carried out yesterday show the water is clean.
