Woman arrested following Galway drug seizure
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested after herbal cannabis worth around €94,000 was seized from a house in Knocknacarra, Galway.
A search was carried out at the house in a joint operation between Revenue Customs Service and gardaí, where approximately 4.7kgs of the drug was found.
It is believed the drugs had originated in Cotonou, Bening in West Africa and were concealed in dried fish.
The investigation is ongoing.
Man arrested over alleged €300,000 fraud
A man has been arrested in Dublin connection with an alleged €300,000 fraud offence on a man based in Italy.
The 32-year-old was arrested by officers from the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigations yesterday and taken to Store Street Garda Station.
He was released from custody last night and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Priest steps aside from ministry in Galway pending investigation
A priest in Galway has stepped aside from active ministry in his parish, pending an investigation relating to the safety of a child.
It is understood the inquiry began following a report to gardaí in the city in recent weeks. Parishioners have been informed of the investigation and the priest has taken leave of absence from his regular duties.
Bishop Martin Drennan confirmed the priest voluntarily stood aside, given that an inquiry was under way.
He said this was in line with diocesan policy and anyone with concerns about the safeguarding of children should contact designated Diocesan liaison personnel, the Health Service Executive or gardaí.
Two held in Cork organised crime investigation
Gardaí have arrested a man and a woman as part of an ongoing investigation into organised crime and serious assaults in Cork city area.
The woman, aged 20, and man, who is 21, were arrested in the Blarney area of Co Cork this morning.
They are being held in Togher and Bridewell Garda Stations.
Man arrested after €100,000 of drugs found in Carlow
A man aged in his 40s has been arrested after cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €100,000 was found in a premises in Carlow town.
The drugs were seized by gardaí from the Kilkenny/Carlow Divisional Drugs Unit following the planned search yesterday shortly after 2.30pm.
The man was arrested at scene and is being detained at Carlow Garda Station.
